Academic Opportunities

As a 运动机能学 major, you can choose to combine your emphasis with a second emphasis (dual emphasis), a related 运动机能学 minor, another major (dual major), or a pre-professional program. You can also transition to one of our Master’s programs in either 训练 and Exercise Sciences or 训练 and Athletics Administration.

CUI's department of 运动机能学 is host to three different lab settings which offer multiple opportunities for lab based instruction and the formation of undergraduate research. These dedicated spaces serve as central locations for students to apply what they have learned in didactic instruction to the development of psychomotor laboratory skill sets of working with human subjects. The 运动机能学 laboratory settings are fully equipped for students to become competent in analyzing therapeutic modalites, therapeutic and corrective 锻炼, strength and conditioning, cardio-respiratory efficiency and capacity, 肌电描记术, body composition and 健康 screening, and cardiac 康复.

运动机能学 Curriculum

This major provides you with the knowledge to assist individuals in obtaining optimal health, physical skill and fitness. The BS in 运动机能学 utilizes comprehensive coursework concerned with improving the health and wellbeing of people and includes a strong science foundation, lab and research opportunities, practical experiences, and community outreach initiatives. The core courses provide a broad overall health and science preparation. You can then choose to focus your degree in a specialized area of emphasis:

BIO 246: Human Anatomy and Physiology I

First of a two-semester sequence in human anatomy and physiology. Topics include the structure and function of cells, 组织, and the integumentary, 骨骼, 肌肉发达的, 神经系统. Introduces common human disease processes. Emphasis is on interrelationships among systems and regulation of physiological functions involved in maintaining homeostasis. Laboratory component includes anatomical studies using microscopy and dissection and the study of physiological concepts via experimentation. KIN 220: Foundations of Human Movement Studies

This course will introduce and explore the broad field of 人体运动, 锻炼 and physical activity. KIN 320: Historical, Social, Cultural Foundations of Sport and P.E.

This course will present and discuss the philosophical, 历史, and sociological constructs relevant to sport and physical education. Philosophy of sport will explore ways to 理解 sport involvement. History of sport will be explored from Ancient Greece to modern times. Sociology of sport will be explored regarding current challenges, 有关问题, and controversies in sport and physical education.

Dr. Vance Tammen

Dr. Vance Tammen serves as the Chair of the 运动机能学 department in the School of Health and Human Sciences. 他获得了学士和博士学位.D. from University of Illinois and Master of Science from Kansas State University. His research specialty is the social psychology of sport and physical activity, focused on the motivation of 教练 and athletes and 健康 across the lifespan. Dr. Olson’s educational background includes a BS from New Mexico State University and a MS and Ph.D. from the University of New Mexico. Dr. Olson’s current research emphasis is on self-regulation and critical thinking of pre-service teachers in physical education.
